(Please click here for the latest Australian government information on Coronavirus)
However – the Influenza virus is potentially more deadly and much more common than the Coronavirus at this point in time.
The Australian Government funded influenza vaccines for certain groups is usually distributed to us in March or April every year.
In the top end of Northern Australia, the influenza season may last the entire year and outlive the duration of efficacy of a standard yearly seasonal influenza vaccine.
The seasonal 2020 influenza vaccination is safe to be boostered every 6 months – however a booster is not government funded in adults as further research is required to prove the full cost/benefit.
Booking are opening soon for flu vaccination clinics at Nightcliff and Mitchell
A traveler already vaccinated with the seasonal vaccine of a temperate country and intending to travel to a tropical or opposite-hemisphere country where seasonal influenza is ongoing might benefit from a repeat vaccination 6 months after the first.
